Take a Knee

“Take a Knee”

That’s what coach used to say when he wanted the players to gather in a circle and, “Listen Up!” “Take a knee!” meant, “Come here!” It meant, “Get down on one knee,” so we could better see the coach, and he could better see us. It meant, “Listen!” Today, especially days like today, God is saying to us,
Come here and listen.”
Sunday, we took up almost $13,000 for Haiti! I’m real excited about that outpouring of support. I’m also aware that many are saying, “I need to do more!” and are perhaps feeling guilty that they could not. Well, “Take a Knee!” God is still on His throne and is still able. God has a game plan for you and it begins with “Take a Knee” in prayer.
In the flood of ’97 in Falmouth, as a care giver and spiritual leader in Falmouth, I was overwhelmed by the destruction and need. “How will I do this?” That can’t compare to the needs in Haiti at this hour, but please know that money – although needed – is not going to fix Haiti. Leaders like Leon DeOrleans (our missionary in Haiti) need your prayers lifted heavenward on their behalf. A preacher the other night reminded us of Aaron and Hur lifting up the arms of Moses as a battle was being waged by the Israelites. As long as Moses’ arms were lifted up the Israelites would be winning the battle, but Moses became so tired that he needed help in keeping his arms up. The church in Haiti needs you to lift their leaders up for strength to not become overwhelmed by the destruction all around them.
It is really pointless and certainly unproductive to get bogged down in our emotions (been there) and feelings of helplessness. No, today “Take a knee” and listen up to what the Father wants to reveal to you; to what He is going to be doing in Haiti – perhaps through you.
God was not taken by surprise by this earthquake. He is not overwhelmed by the destrucdtion. It is not beyond His ability to wipe away tears and replace despair with hope. Our God is mighty to save.
God has a plan for helping leaders like Leon DeOrleans. He also has a plan for you – in this – or other disasters. So, to my brothers and sisters, we did great last Sunday. We will continue the offering this Sunday, but lets stop right now, and “Take a knee.” Say “goodbye” to the feelings of frustration. Look to the Father, and say, “I’m here, and I’m ready to listen. What do you want me to do?”
Someone said, “I can’t do everything, but I can do something; and what I can do, I will do!
“To Him who is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, beyond all that we ask or imagine, according to the power that works within us…”
